'A chance to understand Dongducheon's history and grow closer to the community'
Dongducheon held a "Dongducheon History and Culture Experience Day" for US troops stationed at Camp Casey on Wednesday.
The event was designed to introduce soldiers to the city's key historical, security and natural landmarks while giving them hands-on exposure to traditional Korean culture, with the aim of deepening their understanding of Korean culture and helping them settle into the local community.
In the morning, troops began with an orientation before visiting the tomb of General Eo Yu-so, the Freedom and Peace Museum and Soyosan. The afternoon featured a traditional tea ceremony, a Korean dance performance and traditional crafts activities.
Yang Hye-ran, Dongducheon's public relations and future planning officer, said she hoped the event would serve as an opportunity for US troops to better understand the city's history and culture and grow closer to the local community. "We will continue to develop a variety of cultural exchange programs with US service members to strengthen the bonds between Korea and the United States," Yang added.
