Mapo-gu District Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun attended the 2026 Autumn Wildfire Prevention Council meeting at the Mapo-gu office Wednesday morning to review wildfire prevention measures and discuss cooperation among relevant agencies.
The council was convened ahead of the autumn wildfire-watch period, which runs from Nov. 1 through Dec. 15, to prepare for the heightened risk of wildfires driven by dry weather and increased hiking activity during the season.
Representatives from forestry, fire department, police and military agencies gathered to share the district's autumn wildfire prevention strategy. The district has established a comprehensive plan covering four areas — prevention, preparedness, suppression, and investigation and recovery — and is working to develop firefighting operation plans for six forest sites in the area, expand firefighting equipment and strengthen monitoring systems.
Participants discussed the roles each agency would play in the event of a wildfire, along with plans for deploying personnel and equipment. Particular attention was paid to cooperation for swift initial response to protect residents, given that major forested areas such as Sungsan and Maebongsan are located adjacent to residential neighborhoods.
"In Mapo, where forests and residential areas sit side by side, swift initial response and close coordination among relevant agencies are paramount when a wildfire breaks out," District Mayor Yoo said. "We will strengthen prevention-focused on-site inspections and public outreach, and carefully review our response systems to ensure the necessary personnel and equipment can be deployed without delay."
The district will operate its Wildfire Prevention Headquarters around the clock throughout the wildfire-watch period to monitor conditions in real time. In December, it plans to hold a joint wildfire prevention campaign to inform residents of precautions they should follow, including a ban on open flames in forested areas and the proper use of flammable-material storage boxes.
