Daegu Technopark announced Wednesday that Song Kyu-ho has been appointed as its 12th president.

Song's two-year term runs from Monday through Nov. 8, 2028.

The institution has been grappling with an unprecedented set of challenges, including internal conflicts, a decline in public trust and a reduction in its budget.

Against that backdrop, the regional business community had been calling for a strong leader capable of restoring the organization's core mission of supporting companies and driving meaningful institutional reform.

Song is widely regarded as the right person to steer the institution through the crisis. As a private-sector CEO, he won the Jang Yeong-sil Award for commercializing core technologies, gaining deep insight into how businesses operate.

Song previously served as head of the Nano Convergence Practical Application Center at Daegu Technopark and as head of strategic planning at the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Advanced Medical Industry Promotion Foundation, before going on to lead the Daegu Machinery Institute and chair the Daegu Creative Economy Innovation Center.

"I am acutely aware of the internal and external crises facing Daegu Technopark and the cold scrutiny it is under," Song said. "I will restore the institution's identity as a business support organization through painful but necessary organizational reform and by securing sound finances."

Song added that he would "pour every ounce of effort into rebuilding Daegu Technopark's standing — not merely as a support agency, but as a core innovation hub driving new industries in the region — through on-the-ground communication and transparent management, as the organization approaches its 30th anniversary."
