Gijang-gun will host the 7th Gijang Green Onion and Pajeon Promotion Festival Saturday and Sunday at the parking lot of Shinsegae Busan Premium Outlets, located at 1133 Jeonggwan-ro, Jangan-eup, the county announced Tuesday.

Organized by the Gijang Green Onion Agricultural Cooperative, the event aims to raise awareness of Gijang green onions — registered as Geographical Indication No. 105 — while boosting income for local farmers and expanding sales channels for agricultural products.

Gijang green onions grow under warm sea breezes and abundant sunshine year-round, giving them firm stalks, a pungent flavor and a rich aroma. In March 2018, they became the only green onions in South Korea to receive geographical indication status, recognized for their historical significance, reputation and regional characteristics.

Vendors at the festival will offer discounted pajeon, peeled green onions, soil-grown green onions and green onion kimchi made with Gijang green onions, alongside other local agricultural and specialty products.
