Yeungnam University of Science and Technology staged an original play Monday at Kkumkuneun Theater in Nam-gu, Daegu, aimed at helping students manage stress and adjust to college life. The production was titled "A Junior College Student's Survival Story: A Guide to Avoiding Academic Probation."
The play was developed using generative AI to flesh out a script based on student concerns gathered firsthand by the university's student welfare director, then refined in collaboration with theater professionals.
The story follows two characters: Daehui, a student who procrastinates on studying and assignments but excels socially, and Sanga, a diligent student who struggles to ask others for help.
The production traces their efforts to overcome academic difficulties through attendance, assignments, exam preparation and consultations with professors, conveying the message that reaching out for help is the first step toward thriving in college.
Five current students took the stage alongside professional actors, bringing their own peer experiences and perspectives to their performances.
President Lee Jae-yong attended the performance and encouraged the students. "We will do our utmost to ensure that every student feels a sense of belonging and satisfaction, and leads a healthy and happy college life, by actively making use of new technologies including AI and a wide range of student support programs," Lee said.
