Yeongdeok-gun in North Gyeongsang Province will hold the 20th Yeongdeok Flatfish Festival from Friday through Sunday at Chuksan Port in Chuksan-myeon, the county announced Tuesday.

This year's festival will feature hands-on grilling experiences where visitors can cook fresh seafood themselves, free tastings and bare-handed fish catching.

Performances will include the MBN Nationwide Star Birth finals, local club performances, an iNET TV music concert and shows by popular artists.

The flatfish, known locally as mulgajami, is caught in coastal waters around the Korean Peninsula and is especially abundant off Yeongdeok, where it is prized for sashimi and grilling.

Kim Ha-seop, chairman of the Yeongdeok Flatfish Festival organizing committee, said this year's event is "not simply a seafood sales fair, but a living fishing-village cultural festival created together by local fishers, youth and residents."

Yeongdeok County Chief Jo Ju-hong said he hopes the festival will give visitors a chance to taste Yeongdeok's fresh seafood firsthand and experience the charm of a fishing village up close, and urged residents and tourists to attend.
