Seocho-gu in Seoul held the fourth annual autumn concert for Banpo 3-dong residents at the auditorium of Cheongdam High School on Thursday evening, the district announced Monday.
Organized by the Banpo 3-dong Residents' Autonomous Committee, the concert was designed to give community members a chance to enjoy classical music close to home and connect with their neighbors. About 400 residents attended, taking in a program that featured orchestral performances, a harp concerto and choral singing.
The evening opened with a pre-show stage by the Miriam Dance Company, whose young dancers performed three pieces: "Two Fairies on Rainbow Hill," "Petals Holding Sunshine" and "Dolls in the Treasure Box."
The main concert featured the Seoul Royal Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Lee Jong-gi, performing beloved classical works including Suppé's "Light Cavalry Overture," Shostakovich's "Waltz No. 2" and the fourth movement of Dvořák's "New World Symphony." The program was further enriched by a harp concerto performed by Oh Sang-eun, a male vocal quartet performing "Tears Flowing in Secret" and "Beautiful Country," the Viva Bravo Choir performing "Wild Rose," and Verdi's "Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves."
Seocho-gu District Mayor Jeon Seong-su said he hoped the evening gave residents a chance to set aside the worries of daily life and create warm memories with their neighbors amid the deepening autumn and beautiful melodies. "We will continue to expand opportunities for residents to enjoy diverse cultural and artistic experiences close to home and connect with one another," he said.
