About 700 residents will gather Wednesday at the district office's main auditorium to showcase skills honed through community center programs, with performances ranging from nanta drumming and pungmul to line dancing and choral singing, alongside an exhibition of student works
Seoul's Seongdong-gu will hold its "2026 Community Self-Governance Harmony Festival" on Wednesday.
The district has established community self-governance councils in each of its 17 dong neighborhoods, through which residents identify and drive local projects on their own initiative.
Every two years, the district holds the harmony festival to share the results of those efforts and give residents a stage to display skills developed through community center programs. A total of 161 programs are currently offered across the 17 community centers in Seongdong-gu.
The event will be held in the main auditorium on the third floor of the Seongdong-gu district office. With about 700 participants expected — including community council members, program students and general residents from all 17 dong — organizers anticipate a festive atmosphere of unity and celebration.
Seventeen teams, one representing each dong, will take the stage to perform nanta drumming, pungmul folk percussion, line dancing, choral singing and more, showcasing what they have practiced throughout the year. Residents from each neighborhood are also expected to cheer on their teams, adding to the lively festival spirit.
In the third-floor lobby, students from community center programs will display works they created themselves, offering visitors a look at the diverse pieces residents have completed through their studies.
"This will be a meaningful occasion for residents who have consistently put in the effort at community center programs throughout the year to come together, share their achievements and cheer one another on," Seongdong-gu District Mayor Yoo Bo-hwa said. "We will continue to support the vitalization of community self-governance based on residents' active participation and open communication."
