Mapo-gu District Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun joined Ministry of Interior and Safety Minister Yun Ho-jung on Friday afternoon to inspect safety preparations in the Hongdae area ahead of Halloween and to encourage workers on the ground.
The inspection was organized in anticipation of large crowds gathering in the Hongdae district for Halloween, with officials checking the readiness of relevant agencies and reviewing on-site response systems for crowd management. The Seoul Metropolitan Government, police, fire department and Seoul Metro also took part.
Yoo reviewed each agency's preparations at a joint on-site operations center inside Hongik Culture Park, where officials discussed crowd dispersal strategies, securing pedestrian pathways and emergency response procedures.
The group then walked through the Hongdae club district and the Walkway Street, examining pedestrian flow and safety facilities in areas prone to crowd congestion. Officials checked the operational status of an AI crowd-density analysis system and observed a demonstration of the emergency bell reporting function, and also reviewed plans to use disaster-information display boards for safety announcements. At the fire department's field command post, Yoo met with on-duty firefighters and expressed appreciation for their work.
"Hongdae draws so many visitors, so we will not overlook even the smallest risk factor," Yoo said. "We will share on-site conditions swiftly with relevant agencies and work in close cooperation to ensure that both residents and tourists can stay safe."
Through Sunday, the district is monitoring crowd density in real time at nine locations — including Exit 9 of Hongik University Station — and providing multilingual safety information via five electronic display boards during the Halloween period. Safety fences have also been installed along key stretches to keep pedestrian traffic moving smoothly, while the joint on-site operations center coordinates with police and fire officials to prepare for any emergency.
