Dongwon F&B announced Friday that it has co-produced a video with Sungshin Women's University Professor Seo Kyung-duk to promote Korean seaweed culture to global audiences.
The video is the second installment — a culture-focused episode — in a three-part documentary series covering history, culture and global themes. The documentary is part of a global hansik campaign developed in collaboration between Dongwon F&B and Seo. The four-minute film was produced in both Korean and English, with actor Park Ha-sun providing the narration.
The video introduces the traditional "bokssam" practice, in which Koreans wrap five-grain rice and seasoned vegetables in dried seaweed on the first full moon of the lunar new year to wish for health and good fortune in the year ahead. It also spotlights seaweed as a staple of the Korean table, tracing its many forms — from kimbap and seasoned seaweed flakes to deep-fried seaweed chips.
Dongwon F&B's seasoned seaweed brand Yangban Gim is exported to more than 30 countries, including the United States, Japan and Thailand. "Seaweed is both a defining ingredient and a food culture that has accompanied Korean tables for generations," a Dongwon F&B official said. "We will continue using Yangban Gim, the No. 1 brand in Korea, to share the value of hansik with the world."
Professor Seo said tourists visiting Korea frequently purchase seaweed as a souvenir. "We will keep raising awareness of seaweed's value through upcoming content, including the global episode," Seo said.
