South Korea's National Security Office convened an emergency security situation review meeting Thursday, with the Ministry of National Defense, the Joint Chiefs of Staff and other relevant agencies in attendance, after North Korea fired more than 10 ballistic missiles from the Wonsan area into the Donghae.
Cheong Wa Dae said in a press release that the National Security Office "confirmed South Korea's response status during the meeting, analyzed and assessed the impact of the launch on national security — coming roughly two weeks after the Oct. 12 launch — and said every effort would be made to take necessary measures."
The office also urged North Korea to immediately halt its launches, saying "North Korea's repeated ballistic missile launches constitute a violation of UN Security Council resolutions and are a grave act that does nothing to help manage the current situation."
The Joint Chiefs of Staff said North Korea fired more than 10 short-range ballistic missiles from the Wonsan area into the Donghae at around 12:30 p.m. Thursday.
"Our military has strengthened surveillance and alert posture in preparation for additional launches," the Joint Chiefs said, adding that South Korea, the United States and Japan "are maintaining full readiness while closely sharing information on North Korea's ballistic missiles."
