3,305-square-meter facility opens in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province
Hyundai Engineering has opened a Goodwill Store logistics center in partnership with the Milal Welfare Foundation to support the independence of people with developmental disabilities.
The company announced Thursday the opening of the Goodwill Store West Logistics Center in Siksa-dong, Ilsan Dong-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi Province. An opening ceremony was held Wednesday, attended by representatives from Hyundai Engineering, the Milal Welfare Foundation and Goodwill Store.
Goodwill Store is a vocational rehabilitation facility for people with disabilities, where workers with disabilities participate in every stage of operations — from collecting donated goods to sorting, processing, packaging and sales. Hyundai Engineering has partnered with the Milal Welfare Foundation since 2017, supporting the establishment of new Goodwill Store locations, donating goods and conducting volunteer activities.
The West Logistics Center is the first Goodwill Store logistics center built through corporate sponsorship. It is the fourth facility Hyundai Engineering has supported, following the Goodwill Store Milal Ilsan, Milal Tanhyeon and Milal Baekseok locations.
The center spans approximately 3,305 square meters — about 2,975 square meters dedicated to logistics operations and about 330 square meters to an outlet store. It will serve as a logistics hub for the western Gyeonggi Province area, handling the storage, sorting and distribution of donated goods for sale.
The center's operations will also create 13 new jobs for vulnerable groups, with 10 part-time workers recruited through a local senior club and three workers with disabilities.
Hyundai Engineering plans to redirect savings from reduced logistics costs and warehouse rent toward opening new stores and creating additional jobs for vulnerable groups.
The center will also house the first Goodwill Store outlet in the Greater Seoul area. The outlet will sell surplus inventory from individual stores at a discount to promote resource reuse, with revenue helping to cover the logistics center's operating costs.
Hyundai Engineering employees ran a donation drive from Oct. 12 to Friday, collecting 8,441 items including clothing and household goods, which were handed over to Goodwill Store on the day of the opening ceremony.
"We will continue supporting the independence of people with disabilities and other socially vulnerable groups," a Hyundai Engineering official said.
