Tongyang Life Insurance's Jeju branch is supporting the field integration of rookie financial consultants through a customer management approach tailored to the region.

The company said Thursday that the number of registered financial consultants at the Jeju branch rose by 14, or 32.6 percent, from 43 in January to 57 in September this year.

In the insurance industry, rookie financial consultants must build a client base and establish trust with little prior sales experience, making it difficult to settle into the field quickly. To ease that burden, the Jeju branch runs an in-house training program alongside on-site support initiatives.

The flagship initiative is the "GO 100!" program, which aims to equip new financial consultants to conduct independent client consultations within 100 days of joining. The program focuses on self-directed learning — applying classroom knowledge to real sales situations and refining consultation skills through feedback.

The branch also runs a "door-handle delivery" program designed with Jeju's residential environment in mind. When a financial consultant visits a new client and finds no one home, the consultant leaves a personal introduction and greeting at the door, then follows up to build the relationship toward a consultation. By removing the pressure of requesting a face-to-face meeting at first contact, the program helps rookie consultants expand their client touchpoints and accumulate field experience.

As the financial consultant organization has grown, so has the working environment. To improve conditions for rookie consultants, the Jeju branch more than doubled its exclusive use area from 346 square meters to 729 square meters.

"For rookie financial consultants, how they begin their first relationship with a client is a critical challenge," said Seok Chang-min, head of Tongyang Life Insurance's Jeju branch. "We will build a branch where rookie consultants can settle in stably and develop long-term trust with local customers, and lead the company to become a trusted life insurer in the Jeju region."

Tongyang Life Insurance is also broadening its presence among Jeju customers through cultural events and healthcare services. In March last year, the company held a musical talk concert by Hong Ji-min in Jeju to engage local customers and residents. More recently, it has expanded healthcare services linked to local medical institutions to support customers' health management.

Meanwhile, according to the Financial Supervisory Service, the 13-month retention rate for exclusive financial consultants — the share of newly registered consultants who remain active for at least one year — stood at 51.4 percent as of the end of last year, meaning roughly one in two rookie consultants leaves the field within a year. The figures underscore the growing need for stronger support to help new consultants stay in the industry.
