'Mega Ice' cubes weigh 25g — more than twice the standard size
Up to 5.7 kg of ice per day with a 1.1 kg ice room
Five-layer hygiene system and replaceable ice room boost convenience
Product wins 2026 iF Design Award
Ice size and quality are emerging as key differentiators in the water purifier market. Competition is intensifying as manufacturers race to offer products that go beyond basic ice-making — targeting consumers who want slow-melting ice, generous daily output and easy hygiene maintenance.
SK Magic, the health platform brand under SK Intellics, is pushing into that market with the Mega Ice water purifier, which produces cubes more than twice the size of standard ice, SK Intellics said Thursday.
The defining feature is the ice itself. While a typical cube weighs about 11 grams, a Mega Ice cube comes in at about 25 grams — more than double. The product is also engineered to produce hard, clear ice that melts slowly when placed in a drink.
Slower melting means beverages are diluted less quickly, allowing iced coffee, tea and other cold drinks to retain their original flavor and aroma longer, the company said. The larger cubes also mean a single dispense can fill a large cup.
Ice-making capacity has been upgraded as well. In Mega mode, the machine can produce up to 5.7 kilograms of ice per day and is equipped with a 1.1-kilogram ice room, giving even high-consumption households a comfortable supply.
Convenience features are also notable. Separate buttons — one for ice only and one for ice and water together — let users dispense exactly what they want without extra steps.
The product incorporates a five-layer hygiene system. All water channels use corrosion- and contamination-resistant all-stainless direct-flow pipes. The system also includes triple ultraviolet care for the ice room, UV care for the dispenser and cock, electrolyzed-water care for the water lines, and a circulation-care cycle.
A particularly notable design choice is the replaceable ice room — the enclosed space where ice is formed and stored, which users typically cannot inspect directly. By making it swappable, SK Magic aims to reduce consumer concerns about hygiene in that hard-to-reach area.
Water purifiers with ice-making functions require not only strong purification and ice-production performance but also hygienic storage and easy maintenance — factors consumers weigh when choosing a product. SK Magic is addressing all three by simultaneously upgrading ice size and hygiene management.
Design was another focus. The unit features a "layer design" inspired by the look of clear ice, giving it a clean, minimal exterior. That design earned the product a 2026 iF Design Award.
The purifier comes in two colors — natural white and neutral silver. LED lighting that changes color based on water temperature (hot, purified or cold) is built in, allowing users to operate the machine in low-light conditions without a separate light source.
"This new product focuses on overcoming the limitations of existing ice water purifiers by addressing ice size, ice quality and hygiene all at once," an SK Magic official said. "We will continue to introduce innovative home appliances that resolve the everyday inconveniences our customers face."
