'Information may have passed to private hands'
'Must fully disclose what secrets were uploaded'
People Power Party lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo on Thursday called on President Lee Jae-myung to "fully disclose what state secrets were uploaded to AI and immediately verify whether sensitive government information transmitted to AI servers was used for unauthorized training or leaked."
Ahn made the demand in a Facebook post, criticizing Lee for "consulting a private AI on state affairs and making the responses public."
The criticism came after President Lee used the generative AI service Gemini on Wednesday to rebut calls to exclude the head of the Serious Crimes Investigation Agency from Cabinet meetings — a move that appeared to intensify, rather than defuse, opposition attacks.
Expressing concern that sensitive government information may have been passed to the AI service, Ahn said "text and files entered into an AI service are stored as-is on overseas servers and recycled for AI training," adding that Cheong Wa Dae officials are strictly prohibited from uploading materials to, querying, or otherwise using AI on their own initiative.
He also said the National Intelligence Service had established rules explicitly banning public institutions from entering "non-public information, personal data, and other sensitive information" into AI systems. "Seeing that the president himself has been using generative AI, I am deeply concerned about what materials he may have uploaded and what he may have asked it up to now," Ahn said.
Ahn again called on Lee to "fully disclose all government documents and policy data entered into the AI and register them as presidential records without omitting a single line," and urged the NIS to "immediately verify whether state information that passed through the president and Cheong Wa Dae to AI servers was used to train models and whether there is any risk of leakage."
He also said he hoped Lee would not "dress up as communication what is in fact a security blind spot — entrusting the running of state affairs not to the Constitution and institutional systems, but to a foreign AI prompt window."
