The family of a 9-year-old boy who injured his head after falling from a tree has delivered a handwritten letter to the paramedics who treated him and rushed him to the hospital.
According to the Ulsan North Fire Department on Thursday, the boy, identified only as A, and his family visited the Yeompo 119 Safety Center on Tuesday to hand over the letter along with a box of fruit.
A had climbed a tree at an apartment playground in Dong-gu, Ulsan, on Sunday before falling and cutting his head open. Paramedics who responded administered first aid and transported him to a nearby university hospital, where he underwent surgery.
For the family, shaken by the sudden accident, the paramedics' swift response was a great source of comfort.
In the letter, A's mother introduced herself as "the mom of a 9-year-old boy monkey," expressing her gratitude and writing that the responders "kept calming me down while I was beside myself with worry that something terrible would happen to my child."
She added that "thanks to your quick response, my child finished surgery with no problems and is back to running around and having fun," and asked the paramedics not to forget that "there are many people cheering you on."
An official at the Yeompo 119 Safety Center said the letter was deeply moving. "We only did what we were supposed to do, but receiving such a warm gesture truly touched our hearts," the official said. "We will continue to do our utmost to protect the lives and safety of the public."
