Applied Materials Korea received an industrial merit award Wednesday at the 19th Semiconductor Day ceremony, in recognition of its contributions to strengthening the competitiveness of South Korea's semiconductor industry and expanding global technology cooperation.

"In the AI era, semiconductor competitiveness depends on how quickly and closely customers, partners and academia can collaborate," said Applied Materials Korea President Park Kwang-sun. "I see this award as recognition of the co-innovation we have built together with South Korea's semiconductor ecosystem."

Park added that Applied Materials would continue to expand joint innovation with its customers and contribute to the growth and competitiveness of South Korea's semiconductor industry through its global cooperation network.

Applied Materials has supported the sustained growth and innovation of South Korea's semiconductor industry by strengthening a collaborative framework that connects domestic chipmakers with the global technology innovation ecosystem and by advancing the development of advanced R&D infrastructure.

As part of its global R&D network, the company plans to establish the Applied Collaboration Center Korea in Osan, Gyeonggi Province, to help develop local talent and bolster the competitiveness of the domestic semiconductor ecosystem.

Through the center, Applied Materials aims to expand collaboration with major domestic customers and partners, providing support from early-stage research and development through mass production verification.

The company works with more than 100 domestic partners, helping South Korean materials and components firms expand their global growth opportunities. Applied Materials has also joined Korea Venture Investment Corp. to establish a fund of approximately $50 million to support the development of promising domestic startups.
