Battery materials maker signs contract for Palantir's Foundry and AIP platforms
Plans to expand AI use from sales and marketing to factory floors
Targets 60% improvement in customer response capacity
Aims to cut product development time in half
Posco Future M will adopt platforms from US AI software company Palantir Technologies to streamline operations and drive manufacturing innovation. Starting with its sales and marketing divisions, the battery materials maker plans to broaden its use of AI to lift manufacturing productivity by 30 percent and cut product development time in half.
Posco Future M signed a contract with Palantir on Wednesday and announced Thursday that it will deploy Palantir's data operations and analytics platform Foundry along with its AI platform AIP.
Palantir is a US company that develops software to integrate and analyze data for businesses and public institutions. Foundry, one of the two platforms being adopted, consolidates scattered organizational data into a single environment for analysis. AIP builds on that foundation by incorporating generative AI to enable AI agents that automate workflows and support decision-making.
Posco Future M will initially apply both platforms to its sales and marketing operations, using them to analyze customer requirements and market intelligence more quickly and to accelerate collaboration across departments. The company plans to assess the results before considering an expansion to production floors and other business areas.
The longer-term goal is to build an "AI-native" structure in which AI handles everything from data analysis to operational planning and execution, while employees focus on final judgment and decision-making.
Through this initiative, Posco Future M has set targets of improving customer response capacity in sales and marketing by more than 60 percent and raising manufacturing productivity by 30 percent. It also plans to cut product development time to roughly half of current levels.
The deal is part of Posco Future M's company-wide AI transformation, or AX, strategy. The company unveiled its digital innovation vision — dubbed "BoT Ecosystem Game Changer" — in July, and has been pursuing an AX project grounded in business process innovation since August.
As collaboration between customers and raw material suppliers grows increasingly important in the battery materials industry, the company aims to integrate data generated across production and sales to speed up its response capabilities. Over the longer term, it also plans to build a platform that uses data accumulated from production through to sales to support collaboration with customers and partners.
Posco Future M is also running parallel efforts to strengthen employees' AI skills. Standout cases identified at an internal AI festival will go through on-site verification and employee feedback before being rolled out sequentially to actual operations by the first half of next year.
Separately, 87 employees who have completed a dedicated AI specialist training program are identifying AI application opportunities in their own work areas, tasked with finding repetitive tasks and inefficient processes that can be improved with AI.
