Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power's Hanul Nuclear Power Plant headquarters will hold the 6th Hanul Sanggomun Cultural Festival — autumn edition — at Hanul Energy Farm in Uljin-gun, North Gyeongsang Province, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 31, targeting local students, the headquarters announced Wednesday.

The Sanggomun Cultural Festival — whose name combines the hanja characters for "always" and "think" — is a cultural event designed to help children develop independent thinking skills.

Following a calligraphy competition held during last summer's edition, the autumn program will feature a writing contest alongside a range of hands-on activities.

The writing contest is open to all elementary school students in Uljin-gun, and submitted works will later be compiled into a collection.

The event will also offer five types of traditional folk games — including ttakji (card flipping) and biseoktchigi (stone tossing) — a North Gyeongsang Province landmark quiz, a random-play dance segment, a bubble show and clown performance, an air bounce, and a costume event.

Children will also be able to decorate their own safety umbrellas — an activity aimed at raising awareness of pedestrian traffic safety in rainy weather — and take part in a donation drive.

Further details are available through the Hanul headquarters Instagram account or its public relations department.

"It is gratifying to see the Sanggomun Cultural Festival taking root as a local children's cultural festival," said Lee Yong-hee, head of Hanul Nuclear Power Plant headquarters. "We hope many children in Uljin-gun will join us, and we will continue to offer a rich lineup of cultural and arts experiences."
