Showcased at 2026 ITS World Congress in Gangneung
Live demonstration on 2.6 km of real road
Fast-response V2X and wide-range V2N complement each other
Meets Euro NCAP's highest rating standards
Company also supplying telematics control unit for GV90
LG Electronics said Tuesday it will showcase a traffic safety solution combining V2X (vehicle-to-everything) and V2N (vehicle-to-network) communications at the 2026 ITS World Congress, being held in Gangneung, Gangwon Province.
The 2026 ITS World Congress, which opened Monday, is the world's largest event bringing together government officials, businesses and academic experts from around the globe to share intelligent transportation system (ITS) technology and policy. The congress rotates among Europe, the Americas and Asia and is held annually.
LG Electronics will conduct a live driving demonstration along approximately 2.6 kilometers of real road. Participants can experience how a vehicle detects hazards in advance and alerts the driver — including stalled or broken-down vehicles, road construction, severe weather, approaching ambulances and pedestrian collision risks.
V2X allows vehicles and roadside infrastructure to exchange information directly through dedicated communication equipment, without routing through a separate network, giving it a fast response time. V2N connects vehicles to networks and cloud servers via mobile communications networks, enabling delivery of a broader range of information across wider areas, including data on stalled vehicles, construction zones, weather conditions and traffic signals.
LG Electronics combined both methods to offset their respective limitations, pairing V2X's fast response with V2N's wider service coverage. Within the communication range of roadside units (RSUs) installed on roadsides, traffic lights and utility poles, the system draws on data collected through both V2X and V2N. In areas where direct communication is difficult, it falls back on V2N via mobile networks to deliver hazard information.
The company said the solution meets the highest rating standards of Euro NCAP, the European new car safety assessment program. It can be used not only to keep pace with tightening safety evaluation criteria but also to advance vehicle safety features through software as part of the shift toward software-defined vehicles (SDVs).
LG Electronics has been advancing its vehicle communications capabilities on the strength of its No. 1 global market share in telematics. The company recently became the first in the industry to apply a smart telematics solution based on R16 — the 5G communications standard — to a mass-production European vehicle model. It has also introduced a next-generation hybrid emergency call system supporting networks from 2G through 5G, ahead of mandatory in-vehicle emergency call system requirements taking effect next year in Europe, China and the Middle East.
The company is also supplying a telematics control unit for the GV90, Hyundai Motor Company's full-size flagship electric SUV. The unit handles a range of connected car services — including remote control and over-the-air software updates — by managing electronic control within the vehicle and connecting it to external communications networks.
"We will continue to advance V2X technology that organically connects vehicles, road infrastructure and networks, building a safer future mobility ecosystem," said Lee Sang-yong, executive vice president and head of LG Electronics' VS Research Lab.
