Special series shines light on regional issues raised during national audit
LG HelloVision will spotlight regional issues raised during the National Assembly's national audit, covering not only lawmakers' questions but also government responses and policy alternatives to help local residents better understand the proceedings.
The cable broadcaster announced Tuesday that it will air a special series titled "National Audit, Asking the Regions" on its local news program Hellotv News throughout the 2026 national audit season.
The series was designed to present key regional issues discussed during the audit in terms accessible to local residents. Rather than simply relaying lawmakers' questions, it will analyze proposed policy alternatives and their potential impact on people's daily lives.
The series will particularly focus on lifestyle-related policy issues that residents can directly feel. Recent coverage has included the appearance of a shark nicknamed "Bukang-i" near Busan's North Port amid rising sea temperatures, along with an examination of coastal safety measures and the livelihoods of local fishermen in response to changing marine ecosystems.
The series will also address the concentration of foreign medical tourism in the Greater Seoul area, as well as regional education infrastructure problems such as disparities in course offerings at small high schools and a shortage of teachers.
LG HelloVision plans to continue monitoring responses from government ministries and audited agencies throughout the national audit period, along with their proposed remedies. The broadcaster said it intends to keep the conversation going so that regional issues raised during the audit lead to substantive policy reforms rather than one-off criticisms.
Shim Ji-hun, head of LG HelloVision's news bureau, said the national audit is "an important opportunity to elevate core regional issues to the level of central government policy priorities." He added that through the series, the broadcaster aims to fulfill its role as a local media outlet by ensuring that region-specific policy alternatives discussed during the audit translate into real benefits for residents.
LG HelloVision ran a similar regional-issues election broadcast operation ahead of the June 3 local elections last May. At the time, the broadcaster unveiled segments including "I Am a Candidate" and "I Am a Voter" to convey both campaign pledges and residents' opinions, as well as "Our Neighborhood's Top Priority" and "Answering the Issues," which compared and analyzed key local concerns alongside candidates' proposed solutions.
