Jungnang-gu District Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi directs a disaster response drill.

Jungnang-gu will conduct its "2026 Safe Korea Disaster Response Drill" on Tuesday at Sinnae Senior Care Home, a social welfare facility in the district.

The Safe Korea Drill is a nationwide disaster preparedness exercise in which participants simulate crisis scenarios to build real-world disaster response capabilities.

Jungnang-gu, recognized as a district with strong disaster management, plans to use the drill to sharpen its capacity for swift, systematic on-site response when disasters strike.

The exercise is designed with the particular characteristics of a nursing home in mind — a setting where many elderly residents cannot evacuate on their own in the event of a fire or other disaster. Organizers will assess evacuation routes for mobility-impaired residents and examine whether post-evacuation support systems function smoothly.

The district completed advance preparations through external expert consultations and planning meetings. The drill will bring together 13 working-level teams from the district office, nine related agencies — including the Jungnang Fire Station, Jungnang Police Station and Korea Electric Power Corporation — and local civic organizations such as the voluntary disaster prevention corps, safety wardens and volunteer firefighters. The exercise will provide a comprehensive review of inter-agency coordination across the full cycle of disaster response, from initial reaction through recovery.

Meanwhile, Jungnang-gu has built a consistent record of achievement across safety-related fields. This year, the Ministry of Interior and Safety awarded the district its top rating in the national public safety education performance evaluation, making it an outstanding institution for the fourth consecutive year. The district has also earned the top rating in the lifestyle safety category of the regional safety index, the top rating in the natural disaster safety assessment for six consecutive years, and recognition as an outstanding institution in the 2026 disaster management evaluation for the second consecutive year — reflecting broad-based competence spanning safety education, disaster response and everyday safety management.

"Given that this drill assumes a mass evacuation of elderly residents with limited mobility, we will thoroughly review every stage from initial response through recovery," District Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi said. "Through this exercise, we will build an even more robust disaster response system for social welfare facilities and work toward making Jungnang a safe city that protects the lives and property of our residents."
