Pyo Gallery in Jongno-gu, Seoul, is hosting a solo exhibition by artist Kim Kang-yong, "KIM KANG YONG: REALITY IMAGE," through Oct. 31. Long known as a "brick artist," Kim has moved beyond simply repeating brick motifs to capture on canvas the gaps between bricks and the relationships among light, shadow, surface and space. The exhibition features works in which brick forms are simplified into cubes, with sand and paint used to replicate the texture of real bricks. Viewed up close, the surfaces read as material and tactile; from a distance, they open into a sense of depth — inviting the viewer to examine the boundary between reality and image.
