Gangseo-gu District Mayor Jin Kyo-hoon joined police and a volunteer crime-prevention corps Thursday to inspect safety conditions around the restaurant alley near Kkachisan Station and the surrounding residential neighborhoods.

About 40 people took part in the civilian-government-police joint patrol, including Jin, Gangseo Police Station Chief Kim Sang-hee, Gangseo-gu Volunteer Crime Prevention Federation Commander Jeong Yong-beom and members of the Hwagok 1-dong volunteer unit.

The patrol team split into two groups to conduct a focused inspection of crime-vulnerable areas around Kkachisan Station.

Residents turned to look as the patrol members appeared wearing sashes reading "Building a Safe Gangseo-gu Together" and carrying light batons.

"It's great to see the district office and the police station working together," one resident said, giving a thumbs-up. Some students, apparently curious, approached the group to ask what they were doing.

Setting out from the Kkachisan Police Box, the patrol walked through densely packed commercial blocks and dimly lit alleyways, checking carefully for safety hazards and blind spots vulnerable to crime.

The area has the second-highest proportion of single-female households in the district. To build a tighter, prevention-focused safety net, the district office has been running a range of crime-prevention initiatives alongside the joint patrols — including the creation of women's safe-return routes and the expansion of security closed-circuit television cameras linked to an integrated control center.

"When crimes and accidents occur, the negative impact — shock and anxiety — extends well beyond the direct victims to the broader community," Jin said. "We will work together to build a safe Gangseo-gu on the foundation of a strong civilian-government-police partnership."
