Running Oct. 27–29 at Gangdong Arts Center, Gangdong 50 Plus Center and other venues, the event features an international education special zone conference, a global future education expo, college admissions briefings and generation-tailored lectures
Gangdong-gu in Seoul will hold the "2026 Gangdong Education Week" from Oct. 27 to 29, with events spread across Gangdong Arts Center and other venues throughout the district, the district office announced.
This year's education week carries the theme "Learning in Gangdong, Becoming the Future," and is designed as a forum for sharing the district's educational vision and achievements with residents from elementary school age through middle age. The program includes a future education conference, a hands-on expo, generation-tailored lectures, cultural and arts performances, and an exhibition of works.
On Oct. 28, Studio #1 at Gangdong Arts Center will host an academic conference on the district's international education special zone, where participants will share Gangdong-gu's educational achievements and discuss strategies for advancing global future education. Choi Jae-bung, a professor at Sungkyunkwan University, Lee Hye-jeong, director of the Education and Innovation Research Institute, and Song Jin-ung, a distinguished professor at Seoul National University, are among those scheduled to take part.
From Oct. 27 through Oct. 28, the lawn and main theater lobby of Gangdong Arts Center will host the "2026 Gangdong Global Future Education Expo." The expo will run 60 hands-on programs across zones dedicated to mentoring, making, global culture and campus life, helping students explore future careers, majors and fields of interest. Young visitors will have the chance to experience future professions and world cultures firsthand.
The district has also prepared education programs for teenagers and parents. On Oct. 27, a college admissions strategy briefing analyzing proposed reforms to the 2028–2029 admissions system will be held at the Han River main theater of Gangdong Arts Center.
The briefing will walk attendees through key changes via a lecture and an on-site Q&A session, helping students and parents better understand the reformed admissions system. On Oct. 27 and Oct. 29, an ecology storytelling program led by specialists will visit elementary and middle schools across the district, while on Oct. 28 twelve youth club teams will perform at the Dream small theater at Gangdong Arts Center.
On Oct. 29, notable guest lectures will be held for parents and middle-aged residents. Park Sang-mi, a professor known for the EBS program "Gwangye Sangdamso," a relationship counseling show, will speak at the main auditorium on the fifth floor of the Gangdong-gu district office on the theme of "How parents can connect through conversation." Economics expert Hong Chun-wook will present investment strategies for retirement at the communal auditorium of Gangdong 50 Plus Center, under the theme "Investment methods that protect your retirement savings."
Gangdong 50 Plus Center will also host a program supporting communication and personal growth among middle-aged residents, featuring club performances, a startup information session and one-day experiential classes.
Over all three days of education week, Gangdong Village Media Support Center will hold a lifelong learning works exhibition, displaying more than 200 pieces — including paintings, crafts and digital media art — submitted by lifelong learning participants, sharing the fruits of their studies with the community.
"I hope this education week gives every resident a chance to discover the kind of learning they need," Gangdong-gu District Mayor Lee Su-hee said. "We will continue to expand educational opportunities so that learning remains close to everyday life."
Detailed schedules and registration information for Gangdong Education Week are available on the Gangdong Mirae-on website and the Gangdong 50 Plus Center homepage.
