From pregnancy and birth preparation to childcare support programs, the series delivers practical lifestyle information for parents — with new episodes on kids' cafes and parenting counseling set to drop in November
Yongsan-gu in Seoul is drawing strong public interest with its YouTube series "Y-MOM," which offers practical information on pregnancy, childbirth and childcare.
The series was designed to address the real-world concerns of parents before and after birth, presenting useful parenting information in an accessible format.
It stands out for its varied presentation styles — from situational skits featuring local resident actors to lectures, hands-on demonstrations and on-site visits — with all six episodes running about 10 minutes each.
The four main episodes currently available have logged about 135,000 views, while short-form clips have accumulated about 62,000 views, bringing the total to roughly 197,000. The first episode drew about 55,000 views and the fourth about 38,000.
The videos cover a range of topics, including pregnancy and birth preparation, childcare support programs, parent-child bonding, and information on local childcare facilities.
The first episode follows two expectant fathers and introduces pregnancy- and birth-related information, public health center support services, and the process of preparing for a new arrival. The second covers major childbirth and childcare support programs — including the first-meeting voucher, parental allowance and child benefit — as well as how to use the public health center's breast pump rental service.
The third episode focuses on baby massage techniques for new parents and emotional bonding with infants. The fourth visits the Yongsan-gu Comprehensive Childcare Support Center and Yongsan Ainori Toy World, showcasing play spaces for young children and toy rental services.
Two more episodes are on the way. The fifth, due out in November, will introduce Yongsan-gu's children's playrooms — indoor kids' cafes where children can run and play freely — while the sixth and final episode will cover parenting counseling programs.
Yongsan-gu District Mayor Kim Kyung-dae said looking after both a child's growth and a parent's daily life is "the starting point of 'raising children together in Yongsan.'" He added that the district would not leave the difficulties of parenting solely to parents.
"In line with our district vision of 'Yongsan, an attractive city opening the future,' we will continue building an environment where children can grow up healthy with bright dreams, and where parents can raise their children with peace of mind," Kim said.
The Y-MOM series is available on Yongsan-gu's official YouTube channel.
