Gwangjin-gu will host a university campus tour for 120 local middle school students on Oct. 31, pairing them with college student mentors for a hands-on career and college-preparation experience.

The program gives students a firsthand look at major Seoul universities, with each participant choosing one campus — Seoul National University, Yonsei University or Hanyang University — to visit. Students will tour key facilities and eat at the campus dining hall to get a feel for real university life.

Particularly distinctive this year is the combination of campus exploration with small-group mentoring tailored to students' own questions and concerns. Each university student mentor is matched with eight middle schoolers and shares candid advice on the college admissions process, study strategies by subject and career-planning tips, helping participants work through their questions about their academic futures.

The program, launched last year, drew strong interest from students and parents — registration, including the waiting list, closed within a single day. A satisfaction survey found that 96.8 percent of participants rated the experience as satisfactory or better.

Students wishing to take part may apply on a first-come, first-served basis through the Gwangjin-gu district office website from Tuesday through Oct. 23. Forty spots are available per university, for a total of 120 participants, and each student may select only one campus. For more information, contact the Gwangjin-gu Office of Education Support.

Gwangjin-gu District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho said he hoped the campus visits would give local middle school students a meaningful opportunity to envision their futures and take ownership of their own career paths. "We will continue to expand our education support programs so that students can explore a wide range of career options," he added.
