Korea-Japan Collaborative Seminar held alongside BIO Japan 2026; MCE, Medicos Biotech among companies presenting at IR sessions
Daejeon Technopark has stepped up efforts to help domestic biotech companies enter the Japanese and global markets, taking its support activities directly to Japan.
The agency hosted the Korea-Japan Collaborative Seminar on Thursday at the InterContinental Grand Hotel Yokohama, under the theme "Building the Future of Bio Together."
The seminar was held in conjunction with BIO Japan 2026, Asia's largest biotech partnering event, and was jointly organized by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, Daejeon Technopark, North Chungcheong Province Technopark, the National Institute of Toxicological Research and the Korea Venture Capital Association.
About 80 people attended, including representatives from Japanese venture capital associations and investment institutions. The program featured expert presentations and IR sessions focused on Korea-Japan biotech industry cooperation and global market expansion.
Seven domestic biotech companies took part in the IR sessions, introducing their technologies and business models while exploring potential collaboration with the Japanese market.
Among them, two Daejeon-based companies received support from Daejeon Technopark: MCE, which developed enzyme technology for breaking down waste polystyrene using mealworm gut microorganisms, and Medicos Biotech, which develops and commercializes medical devices using spider silk protein. Medicos Biotech took the top prize among the seven IR presenters.
Following the seminar, participants worked with Japanese biotech industry representatives to map out concrete follow-up cooperation covering joint research, technology collaboration, business partnerships and investment.
"We plan to further expand our cooperation network with Japan through this seminar and will continue supporting our partner companies in finding technology collaboration and pilot opportunities as well as advancing into global markets," a Daejeon Technopark official said.
