About 600 residents and volunteers expected to take part in the 2.7-kilometer walk at Ichon Han River Park on Thursday morning
Yongsan-gu in Seoul will host the "Charming City Yongsan Walking Event for People With and Without Disabilities" on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Turtle Soccer Field and walking trails of Ichon Han River Park.
The event aims to raise awareness about disability issues and create opportunities for people with and without disabilities to mingle, build mutual understanding and communicate. The Yongsan District Welfare Center for People with Disabilities is organizing the event with support from the district office, and about 600 residents and volunteers are expected to participate.
The program includes an opening ceremony, the walk itself and a celebratory performance. A variety of experience and promotional booths, as well as food stalls, will also be set up at the venue.
The walking route starts at the Turtle Soccer Field in Ichon Han River Park, follows the riverside trail to a turnaround point beneath Dongjak Bridge and returns to the starting point — a round trip of 2.7 kilometers.
A stamp rally will run at the experience and promotional booths set up at the Turtle Soccer Field. Participants who collect stamps at each booth will receive a commemorative gift.
The district said it hopes the event will bring people with and without disabilities closer together as neighbors through shared activities and experiences.
Registration is open to individuals and groups. Interested participants can sign up by visiting the Yongsan District Welfare Center for People with Disabilities in person or through its website.
"We hope this will be a meaningful occasion for people with and without disabilities to walk together, understand each other and connect," Yongsan-gu District Mayor Kim Kyung-dae said. "We will continue to create diverse opportunities for everyone in the community to come together."
