Event features 10km, 5km and 3km courses
Gangseo-gu in Seoul drew more than 4,000 participants to the 4th Gangseo Heo Jun Run, held Saturday at Seoul Botanic Park and Han River Citizens Park.
The race was divided into three courses — 10km, 5km and 3km — to accommodate a wide range of participants, from running club members to families with young children.
Runners set off at 7:30 a.m. from Magok Jungang-ro, making their way through Seoul Botanic Park and along the Han River. Young children running hand-in-hand with their parents drew particular attention along the course.
District Mayor Jin Kyo-hoon took to the starting platform to kick off the event with a ceremonial send-off, then moved along the course as participants streamed past the starting line. "You can do it. Don't give up until the very end," he called out at the top of his voice.
Jin remained on-site throughout the event, personally overseeing operations including the finisher medal and souvenir booths and the official race-photo zone.
"We paid special attention to participant safety and smooth race operations, as the event required road closures," Jin said. "We hope the Heo Jun Run — where runners enjoy the beauty of the city and nature together — leaves a lasting impression of Gangseo-gu as an attractive place to live."
