Timed to World Habitat Day, the district will hold two sessions — on apartment subscription preparation Oct. 15 and jeonse fraud prevention Oct. 29 — featuring an apartment subscription expert and a real estate attorney; 50 spots per session, with advance registration open on the district office website
Seoul's Seongdong-gu will mark World Habitat Day by hosting two housing lectures for young adults and early-career residents on Oct. 15 and Oct. 29, the district office announced.
The lectures are designed to help college students, young professionals and newlyweds — groups with limited experience navigating the housing market — build a practical understanding of apartment subscription systems and lease contracts so they can plan for stable housing.
Each session will be led by a specialist: an apartment subscription expert and a real estate attorney will present housing information in accessible, step-by-step terms.
The first session, on Thursday, will feature real estate consultant Park Ji-min speaking on the theme "Solutions for Those in Their 20s and 40s in the Apartment Subscription Market." Park will cover the basics of the subscription system, information on upcoming pre-sale sites, and practical tips on how to prepare and apply.
The second session, on Oct. 29, will feature real estate attorney Shim Jun-seop on "Jeonse Fraud Prevention and Response for Early-Career Renters." Shim will walk attendees through recent jeonse fraud tactics and warning signs, what to check before signing a lease, how to protect a deposit after moving in, and what steps to take if fraud occurs.
Both sessions will include a question-and-answer segment at the end, giving attendees a chance to seek expert advice on housing questions they may have.
The lectures will be held at 7 p.m. in the education room of the Creative Education Promotion Division on the second floor of the Seongdong-gu District Office. Each session is open to 50 participants — youth who live or are active in the district — and registration is available through the quick-reservation system on the district office website.
Seongdong-gu holds housing education events and forums each October to mark World Habitat Day, an annual observance designated by the UN. This year, the district plans to use the youth-focused lectures to deepen awareness of housing issues and support stable living conditions for younger residents.
"I hope these lectures help young people ease their anxieties about housing and prepare for a more stable future," Seongdong-gu District Mayor Yoo Bo-hwa said. "We will continue working to create a housing environment where young people and all generations can live with peace of mind."
