The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee is moving to overhaul its disciplinary and hiring regulations, including strengthening the appeals process and introducing new standards for hiring violations.

The committee convened a Sports Fair Committee meeting Thursday to deliberate on and approve a set of proposed rule amendments. The amendments are scheduled for final review and approval by the board of directors on Oct. 28.

The proposed changes would allow the Sports Fair Committee to reassess the appropriateness of a disciplinary decision when a first-instance ruling is found to be clearly unjust or unlawful. The amendments also spell out procedures covering the full process — from the reporting and investigation of sports organization executives to the deliberation and approval of disciplinary measures.

Reflecting recommendations from the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, the revisions establish penalty standards based on the type and severity of hiring violations and improve the evaluation criteria and methods used in executive reappointment reviews.

The new executive reappointment review standards are set to take effect for reappointment deliberations tied to elections beginning Jan. 1, 2027.

The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee said the regulatory overhaul aims to promote fair governance in the sports community and restore public trust.
