Daegu University held its "2026 DU Hanmaeum Sports Festival," bringing together students and faculty, at the Seomun Athletic Field on its Gyeongsan campus on Thursday.

Organized to mark the university's 70th anniversary, the festival featured athletic competitions and cultural performances.

Participants took part in inter-college competitions and cheering events by college and independent department, creating opportunities for exchange across the campus community.

Events on the day included soccer, dodgeball, tug-of-war, e-sports, cooperative recreation and a novelty relay race.

Soccer and dodgeball, which had gone through preliminary rounds in advance, held their final ranking matches that day, while the championship match of the e-sports title League of Legends was broadcast live at the Seomun Athletic Field.

Organizers deliberately included events that paired students and faculty on the same team to encourage communication across the university community.

The tug-of-war was held as a mixed-team tournament with five faculty members on each team, while the novelty relay race had two faculty members completing missions alongside students.

A college-wide cheering competition — in which teams earned bonus points for faculty participation — and a cooperative recreation program open to all on-site attendees were also held.

An Jin-young, president of the Daegu University student council, said the festival had become "more than a competition to determine winners and losers — it was a space for communication where students from different departments could meet and students and faculty could mingle together."

University President Yoon Jae-woong said the school would continue "building a warm campus community where all members respect one another and grow together, grounded in the founding spirit of love, light and freedom."
