Starting Thursday in Beon 2-dong and Beon 1-dong, the event tours 13 neighborhoods through Oct. 14, featuring commendations and ceremonies to honor filial piety

Gangbuk-gu District Mayor Jung Chang-su attended the "Gongyeonghaehyo Saranghaehyo" senior appreciation festival Thursday, the day before National Senior Citizens' Day, to express gratitude to elderly residents of the district.

Jung visited events held at the Beon Village Welfare Center in Beon 2-dong and Pyeonggang Church in Beon 1-dong, greeting seniors at each venue and presenting commendations to individuals who have contributed to senior welfare.

The festival, organized to mark October as Senior Respect Month, aims to convey appreciation for the elderly and foster a culture of filial piety. It will be held across 13 neighborhoods in the district through Oct. 14, with each stop featuring commendations for senior welfare contributors and commemorative programs.

"I am always grateful to the seniors who built the society we enjoy today," Jung said. "I will do my best to make Gangbuk-gu a warm and happy place where our elders can come together and share in joy."

The remaining schedule calls for events in Ui-dong and Insu-dong on Tuesday, Beon 3-dong and Songjung-dong on Wednesday, Suyu 2-dong and Suyu 3-dong on Thursday, Samyang-dong and Samgaksan-dong on Oct. 12, Mia-dong and Songcheon-dong on Oct. 13, and Suyu 1-dong on Oct. 14.
