The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee has partnered with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to expand sports exchange and cooperation between the two countries.
The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee signed an MOU with the IOA on Friday at Korea House in Nagoya, Japan, to broaden sports exchange and cooperation. The signing ceremony was attended by Korean Sport & Olympic Committee President Yu Seung-min, IOA President P.T. Usha and India's chef de mission Sahdev Yadav.
Under the agreement, the two organizations will expand personnel exchanges involving executives, coaches, referees and sports science experts, and will also cooperate in seminar participation, sports facility operations, planning and marketing.
The two sides will also pursue joint training programs to improve athlete performance. Plans include joint training that draws on Olympic legacies and the mutual use of each country's sports facilities, broadening training opportunities for athletes from both nations.
The MOU was signed on Oct. 2, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi — India's founding father — and the UN-designated International Day of Non-Violence. The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee said the timing was meant to reflect the values of peace and friendship between the two countries through sport.
"I hope this agreement becomes an opportunity for athletes and sports officials from both countries to share experiences and grow together," Yu said. "We will continue meaningful exchanges that draw on the strengths of both nations and contribute to the advancement of sports across Asia."
