Yecheon-gun in North Gyeongsang Province said Wednesday it held a completion ceremony for a new parking tower built to ease a chronic shortage of parking spaces in the Docheong new town area and improve residents' quality of life.
About 50 people attended the ceremony, including Yecheon-gun Mayor An Byeong-yun, Yecheon-gun Council Chairman Kim Hong-nyeon and council members, North Gyeongsang Provincial Assembly member Kim Jae-hwan, the head of the Homyeong-eup village chiefs' council, the head of the Saeum-ro alley-type shopping district merchants' association, and local residents.
The new-town parking tower was built at a total project cost of about 16.9 billion won ($12.4 million) — 8.7 billion won from provincial funds and 8.2 billion won from county funds — with a total floor area of 9,143 square meters across one below-ground floor and four above-ground floors.
The tower provides 310 self-parking spaces, bringing the total number of parking spots in the central commercial district to 916.
"The completion of the new-town parking tower has significantly improved living conditions in the new town, and we will continue to pursue traffic policies grounded in accurate data and figures," Mayor An said.
