The Nicaragua subsidiaries of Seah Changnyong, an affiliate of Global Seah Group, have donated about 560,000 relief garments to the local government this year.

Seah Changnyong said Wednesday that its Nicaragua units Technotex and Ains delivered about 290,000 women's and children's garments to Nicaragua's General Directorate of Customs in August — 6,085 boxes worth approximately $800,000. The donated items included shirts, pants and dresses.

The company had also donated about 270,000 garments worth $850,000 in March. Combined, this year's donations total about 560,000 garments valued at approximately $1.65 million.

Including about 160,000 garments donated in March last year and about 120,000 in July last year, the company has delivered roughly 840,000 garments worth approximately $2.5 million to the Nicaraguan government over the past two years.

The donated clothing consists of surplus inventory left over after product deliveries. In Nicaragua, when a company donates goods to a government agency, the National System for Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Response distributes them as relief supplies to disaster victims.

The subsidiaries are also providing education support. Technotex delivered school supplies — including backpacks, notebooks, colored pencils and regular pencils — to 57 students at Los Robles elementary school in the Tipitapa region of Nicaragua on Sept. 3. The local units carry out school supply drives and facility improvement projects at schools every year.
