Lotte Mart and Lotte Super will run their first-round pre-order for salted kimchi cabbage from Thursday through next Wednesday.

Haenam salted cabbage (20 kilograms) will be available at a limited price of 29,900 won ($22) — a 10,000 won discount for customers paying by participating credit or debit cards. Goesan semi-highland salted cabbage (20 kilograms) will be offered at 35,900 won, and Pyeongchang highland salted cabbage (20 kilograms) at 59,900 won.

Lotte Mart and Lotte Super said they secured supplies early from major growing regions, increasing this year's salted cabbage inventory by 20 percent compared with last year. A total of 65,000 boxes have been set aside for the first reservation period.

The retailers said they factored in the possibility of crop fluctuations caused by high temperatures in September and October, as well as planting delays at autumn cabbage farms due to rain in August.

Lotte Mart and Lotte Super will also accept pre-orders for other key kimchi-making ingredients, including kimchi seasoning paste, radish and mustard leaf kimchi. A Haenam salted cabbage convenience kit — bundling salted cabbage with kimchi seasoning — will also be available for smaller households looking for a simpler kimchi-making experience.

After the first pre-order window closes, both retailers plan to continue accepting salted cabbage pre-orders through Dec. 15.
