Total supply to reach 3,600 units this year

The Korea Housing and Urban Guarantee Corporation announced Monday that it will open applications for its 12th round of Deundeun jeonse housing — the largest recruitment drive in the program's history — starting Wednesday, with 900 units on offer. Combined with a further announcement planned for later this year, the total supply of Deundeun jeonse housing in 2026 will reach 3,600 units.

The Deundeun jeonse program allows HUG to purchase homes on which it has already paid out jeonse deposit guarantees, then lease them to households without homes as public rental housing. Because HUG itself acts as the landlord, tenants can live without worrying about unpaid deposit returns. The program draws attention for offering stable residency of up to eight years at deposit rates roughly 90 percent or less of prevailing market prices.

HUG had already held recruitment announcements for 1,800 units this year. The 11th round, held in July, drew particularly strong interest from tenants without homes, recording an average competition ratio of 165 to 1.

Through this 12th announcement, HUG will supply a record 900 units in urban areas of Greater Seoul — including Seoul, Incheon and Bucheon in Gyeonggi Province — as well as Busan.

Prospective tenants can apply online through the Ansim Jeonse Portal from Wednesday through Oct. 12. HUG will verify eligibility, including whether applicants own any property, and plans to announce final recipients on Dec. 30.

The 12th round brings total Deundeun jeonse supply for the year to 3,600 units — double the 1,800 units supplied last year.

HUG said the expansion reflects improvements to its supply system, including a combination of quarterly scheduled announcements and additional off-cycle recruitment drives.

HUG President Choi In-ho said the corporation would continue to supply Deundeun jeonse housing without disruption, providing ongoing support so that young people and ordinary citizens without homes can live with peace of mind. He also encouraged wide participation in the 12th round of applications.
