The Damyang-gun Cultural Foundation has successfully wrapped up the first pop-up store for desserts developed through its "Sweet Damsun" project, which reimagines the region's traditional fermented pastes as new desserts.

The "Sweet Damsun" project was launched to create new products using local fermented ingredients in response to shifting dining trends. In the first half of this year, the foundation publicly recruited local companies to develop jang-based desserts, selecting two participating firms. After roughly three months of product development, the final desserts were completed.

Through the project, Damyang's Minacheong developed financiers using Damyang soy sauce and gochujang, while Sunchang's Sansol created caramels made with Sunchang gochujang.

The finished products made their public debut at the first pop-up store, held Sept. 19-20 at the Gwangju World Cup store. The pop-up also featured the participating companies' existing product lines alongside the newly developed desserts.

A second pop-up store is planned for Oct. 9-10 at the Gwanbangjerim area as part of the Damyang National Heritage Night event. The products are also set to be showcased at the Sunchang Korea Tteokbokki Festa, running Nov. 21-22.
