Nine winners to be selected; top prize 500,000 won
Siheung is accepting submissions for its 2026 Regulation Reform Idea Contest from Monday through Oct. 30, seeking public input to ease everyday inconveniences faced by residents and businesses and drive meaningful regulatory improvements.
The city has held the contest annually to identify and address unreasonable regulations that citizens and businesses encounter in daily life.
Any Siheung resident, as well as anyone affiliated with a company, school, institution or organization in the city, is eligible to participate. Submissions may address six areas: safety and welfare, daily life, business activity, employment and jobs, new industries, and other matters requiring regulatory improvement in Siheung.
Those wishing to participate can download an application form from the notices and announcements section of the Siheung city website, fill it out, and submit it in person at Siheung City Hall, by mail or by email.
Submitted proposals will be evaluated on feasibility, effectiveness and creativity through two rounds of review — a preliminary screening and a final assessment — with nine outstanding ideas selected in total. Awards, to be presented around December, include one top prize of 500,000 won ($368), two excellence prizes of 300,000 won each, four encouragement prizes of 200,000 won each, and two participation prizes of 50,000 won each.
Lee Deok-hwan, director of the planning and coordination office, said regulatory reform begins with resolving the small inconveniences that citizens and businesses face on the ground. "We will actively review the diverse proposals received and work to translate them into system improvements that residents can feel in their daily lives," he said.
