Mapo-gu District Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun held a preparatory briefing Monday afternoon ahead of the 19th Maponaru Salted Shrimp Festival, reviewing the event's readiness and discussing improvements to ensure a successful run.
The briefing covered preparations across key areas, including the vendor marketplace, program operations and safety management. Particular attention was paid to the quality, origin labeling and hygiene of the salted shrimp on sale, with the aim of running a marketplace where visitors can shop with confidence.
Yoo reviewed programs and operational plans differentiated from the previous year's festival, and discussed ways to strengthen the event's historical identity and distinctive character ahead of next year's 20th anniversary.
This year, the festival will feature nationally open participation programs — including a nationwide parents' singing contest — to draw a wider audience. A photo exhibition through the Maponaru Memory Tunnel will also give visitors a chance to reflect on Mapo's history and the story of the salted shrimp festival.
"Please make sure everything is in order, from the quality of what's on sale to how the programs are run, so the salted shrimp festival can further cement its place as Mapo's signature autumn festival," Yoo said. "Given how many residents and visitors attend, I ask that you pay special attention to safety management as well."
