Jeon Seong-su meets judiciary leaders visiting Seoul for the 20th Asia-Pacific Chief Justices' Conference; Seocho-gu has been building toward the hub designation since 2023 through legal education programs, lifestyle law lectures and tax consultations
"We will continue to build exchanges and cooperation so that Seocho can grow into an Asia-Pacific hub for judicial justice," Seocho-gu District Mayor Jeon Seong-su said Friday.
Jeon made the remarks after meeting with senior judiciary officials from the Asia-Pacific region who had come to the Supreme Court for the 20th Asia-Pacific Chief Justices' Conference, where he introduced the district's legal infrastructure and shared his vision for an Asia-Pacific Judicial Justice Hub.
The conference drew more than 40 court officials — including chief justices and supreme court justices from countries across the Asia-Pacific, the Americas and Africa. The visiting delegation toured key spaces and facilities at the Supreme Court and took in the broader legal district of Seocho, South Korea's judicial center.
Jeon greeted the delegation and introduced Seocho-gu as the heart of South Korea's judiciary, home to the country's major legal institutions. He then outlined the direction and key elements of the Asia-Pacific Judicial Justice Hub project, centered on the legal complex in Seocho-dong, and explored possibilities for future exchange and cooperation with the visiting officials.
Since 2023, Seocho-gu has been working to develop the Seocho-dong legal complex into an Asia-Pacific Judicial Justice Hub, running judicial tour programs, lifestyle law lectures and tax consultations to give residents direct access to and engagement with the legal district. Last year, the district co-hosted "HCCH Asia-Pacific Week Seoul 2025" with the Ministry of Justice, broadening its international engagement. The district has also created a symbolic public space centered on "Cheonnyeonhyang," a juniper tree near Seocho Station with roughly 900 years of history, making the legal complex more accessible and welcoming to the public.
The district plans to keep expanding exchanges with domestic and international legal and judicial communities, and to give concrete shape to Seocho's role as an Asia-Pacific Judicial Justice Hub by drawing on the district's legal infrastructure and local character.
"This meeting gave us the opportunity to introduce Seocho's legal infrastructure and our Asia-Pacific Judicial Justice Hub vision to senior judiciary officials from around the world," Jeon said. "We will keep building exchanges and cooperation with legal and judicial communities at home and abroad, and steadily lay the groundwork for Seocho to grow into that hub."
