The Korea Editors Association on Monday announced the four second-half selections of its 2026 Regional Newspaper Investigative Reporting Support Program.

The selected projects are Gyeongbuk Ilbo's "Can AI, Which Once Couldn't Even Understand Dialects, Save Daegu?"; Maeil Sinmun's "Where Did All the Children Go? Tracking Gunwi County, Ranked No. 1 in Depopulation Risk"; Jungbu Ilbo's "[Who Is Bending the Back of the Regions?] Fiscal Burden-Shifting — Break the Chain of Matching Funds"; and Chungcheong Ilbo's "In the Age of AI, Survival Strategies for North Chungcheong Province's Performing Artists."

Each of the four projects will receive 4 million won ($2,970) in production support funding.

The regional newspaper investigative reporting support program was launched in 2003 to support local journalism and encourage the production of high-quality news content.

Earlier this year, three projects were selected in the first half: Gyeonggi Ilbo's "Warning from Shuttered Streets — The Collapse of Neighborhood Commerce"; Gyeongin Ilbo's "Gyeonggi Province, Where Every Lot Is Full — The Carbon Footprint Built by the Parking Crisis"; and Gukje Sinmun's "Busan's Part-Time Workers Average 13.7 Hours a Week — Falling Outside Labor Law Protections."
