The Seoul Metropolitan Sports Council officially launched its sepak takraw professional team Monday with an inaugural ceremony.
The council said the new team gives Seoul a complete player development pipeline for both men and women, running from the high school level through university and into the professional ranks.
The Seoul Metropolitan Sports Council's sepak takraw team is the ninth men's professional team established nationwide. The squad is led by Head Coach Yu Dong-yeong, who has national team coaching experience, and includes players Park Cheol-hee, Oh Ju-mong, Min Gyeong-hyeon and Lee Ji-won, for a total of five members.
The team has been building its competitive standing at major tournaments, finishing third in the quad event at the 27th National Men's and Women's Sepak Takraw Championships and third in the regu event at the 2026 City and Province Sepak Takraw Tournament.
Team captain Park Cheol-hee expressed his ambitions at the ceremony. "Drawing on the competition experience I have built up, including at international tournaments, I will lead my younger teammates well as the senior member of the squad," he said. "With a sense of responsibility as a representative of Seoul, I will aim for strong results at the National Sports Festival and help this team grow into a powerhouse that truly represents Seoul."
