South Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held the first South Korea-Vietnam Export Control Dialogue at the Trade Security Management Institute in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on Friday.

The meeting marked the first activation of a regular director-level cooperation channel between the two countries' export control authorities, established under an MOU on export control cooperation signed in Hanoi, Vietnam, in April.

Kim Tae-woo, the ministry's trade security policy director, and Nguyen Anh Son, director general of the Foreign Trade Agency at Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade, led their respective delegations and discussed key issues.

The South Korean side plans to share its experience and expertise in operating an advanced export control system that meets international standards, and to convey difficulties faced by South Korean companies operating in Vietnam.

Vietnam introduced an export control regime for strategic goods last October and began enforcing it in June, heightening the need for South Korean companies there to monitor and respond to the new requirements.

"As Vietnam is a key supply chain partner, we will strengthen export control cooperation to support the stability of the advanced industry ecosystem," Kim said. "We plan to share advanced export control capabilities and enhance tailored on-the-ground support so that our companies can respond quickly and smoothly to the new regulatory changes."

Meanwhile, Vietnamese export control officials visited South Korea through a training program that ran from Tuesday through Friday, receiving specialized education and visiting Incheon Customs and Samsung Electronics, a top-rated compliance program company.
