The Island-Island Special Exhibition, a satellite event of the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo, will open at Gallery Camellia in Deokchung-dong.

According to the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo organizing committee, the exhibition draws on cultural and artistic content themed around Yeosu's 365 islands. The works on display showcase the islands' natural environment, the lives of residents and their cultural value, expressing the appeal of Yeosu's island resources through a variety of artistic approaches.

The first show, "Inspiration and Transformation" by artist Kang Jong-rae, runs through Sept. 20 and presents six decades of the painter's work capturing the islands and seas of Yeosu on canvas.

Kang is a leading senior artist from the region who has long portrayed the various islands and natural landscapes of the Yeosu area through his own distinctive perspective and artistic language.

"The Island-Island Special Exhibition carries significance as a companion event that extends the diverse values and appeal of islands, which the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo seeks to promote, into the realm of culture and art," an official with the expo organizing committee said.

The exhibition is being held inside the 2012 Yeosu Expo grounds in Deokchung-dong, near Yeosu Expo Station on the Jeolla rail line, which is serving as a satellite venue for the islands expo. Admission is free.

Visitors can also travel from the expo grounds, in front of the Ytop Marina Hotel, to Jinmo district in Dolsan-eup, the main venue, by taking a yacht tour across the water to Dolsando while enjoying the sea breeze. Holders of tickets to the islands expo receive a 50 percent discount on the yacht tour.
