Participants aim for 90,000 points by Sept. 30, symbolizing the up to nine lives a single brain-dead donor can save
The Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency announced Thursday that it will hold an online walking campaign throughout September using the mobile walking app WalkOn. The campaign marks its ninth Life Sharing Week, which runs from Monday to Sept. 20.
Now in its second year following last year's debut, the campaign is titled "Walk, Run, Catch, Share, Connect: Catch the Seed of Hope!" It is designed to let people engage with the meaning of life sharing in an easy and fun way through everyday walking.
Anyone can join by installing the WalkOn app on their phone and searching for the "Catch the Seed of Hope!" challenge. Participants earn one point per step, up to a maximum of 8,000 points a day.
Additional points can be earned by finding and tapping on characters that appear on the WalkOn map screen — the agency's official mascots, Nanumi and Ieumi, worth 50 points each, and the Seed of Hope, a symbol of life sharing, worth 100 points. Bonus points from catching characters are capped at 2,000 points per day.
The event's required goal is 90,000 points, representing the up to nine lives that a single brain-dead organ donor can save. Participants who reach the 90,000-point target during the event period can enter a prize drawing, with 500 winners set to receive mobile gift certificates worth 5,000 won ($3.60) each.
Those who complete the required goal can also take part in an additional mission.
Participants can leave a comment on the "Life Sharing O/X Quiz" post on the agency's Instagram account, save a screenshot of the comment, and upload it to the WalkOn board. A drawing will award 100 winners mobile gift certificates worth 10,000 won each.
"We hope this event gives the public an easy and approachable opportunity to reflect on the meaning of life sharing in their daily lives," said Lee Sam-yeol, director of the Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency. "We will continue to promote the value of life sharing through a variety of outreach activities and expand public participation."
