Following its first dedicated purpose-built vehicle, the PV5, Kia will unveil its second PBV model, the Kia PV7, for the first time in Europe as the automaker accelerates its push into the region's electrified mobility market.

Kia said Thursday that it will set up a 1,531-square-meter exhibition booth at IAA Transportation 2026, the world's largest commercial vehicle trade show, opening Monday in Hanover, Germany (local time), where it will display three PV7 models and seven PV5 models. The automaker also plans to present its vision for PBVs as solutions that can be tailored to customers' businesses and lifestyles.

This marks Kia's second consecutive appearance at the Hanover IAA, widely regarded as a key battleground for the global commercial vehicle industry. The automaker first took part in IAA Transportation 2024, where it declared its entry into Europe's PBV market, and is putting PBVs front and center again this year.

Kia's decision to showcase the PV7 at this year's event is closely tied to the growing electrification trend in Europe's fast-rising commercial vehicle market. According to market researcher Dataforce, Europe's electric light commercial vehicle (eLCV) market totaled 125,069 units in the first half of this year, up 10.2 percent from a year earlier. The electrification trend stands out even more considering that the overall light commercial vehicle (LCV) market contracted 8.7 percent to 1,206,458 units over the same period.

Electrification is also gaining momentum in Europe's C-segment van (CVAN) market, where the midsize PV5 competes. The overall C-segment van market, covering diesel and other powertrains, grew 2.5 percent from a year earlier to 340,375 units in the first half of this year. Over the same period, the C-segment electric van (eCVAN) market expanded 26.6 percent to 44,810 units, raising its share of the overall C-segment van market from 10.7 percent to 13.2 percent.

The PV5 is leading that electrification shift in Europe's C-segment van market. Launched in the region late last year, the PV5 sold 13,603 units in the first half of this year, taking the top spot in the C-segment electric van market with a 30.4 percent share.

"The PV5's success stems from meeting the diverse needs of individual customers and businesses through a customized lineup that includes passenger, cargo and chassis cab variants," a Kia official said. "This is thanks to the PBV-dedicated electrified platform E-GMP.S, which was developed to deliver product value optimized for PBVs, building on the electrification technology of the EV-dedicated platform E-GMP."

From the early stages of developing the PV5, Kia worked closely with individual customers, corporate clients and conversion partners to reflect real-world user needs in the vehicle and its solutions. As a result, the PV5 became the first Korean brand to win the International Van of the Year 2026 award — one of the industry's most prestigious honors — in a unanimous decision by the judging panel, and has performed well at other major global awards.

Building on the PV5's success, Kia plans to launch the PV7 in Europe next year to continue leading the electrification trend in the commercial vehicle market. Built on the E-GMP.S platform, the PV7 will offer a spacious, flexible interior designed to serve a wide range of customer needs, from professional work settings to everyday commuting and leisure activities.

Europe's midsize electric van (eMVAN) market, where the large PBV PV7 will compete, grew 9.2 percent from a year earlier to 57,804 units in the first half of this year, outpacing growth in the overall midsize van market (MVAN, +2.3 percent).

Meanwhile, Kia is also maximizing PBV production efficiency at home through its Hwaseong EVO Plant.

The Hwaseong EVO Plant is Kia's first factory dedicated to PBVs, comprising the East Plant, which currently produces the PV5, and the West Plant, which will produce the large electrified PBVs PV7 and PV9. Each plant has an annual production capacity of 100,000 units, and once the West Plant is completed in June next year, Kia will have an annual PBV production capacity of 200,000 units.

Kia plans to offer a lineup of 10 variants tailored to different customer uses, and by unveiling the PV7 this month, the automaker aims to accelerate its push into the personalized mobility market.
