15th Seoul Urban Planning and Architecture Joint Committee
The Seoul Metropolitan Government has designated the area around the site of the former Seocho fire school as a district unit planning zone to supply senior housing and welfare facilities for the elderly.
The city said Thursday that the 15th Urban Planning and Architecture Joint Committee, held Wednesday, passed an amended resolution to designate and finalize the district unit plan for the area around the former fire school site.
The site has sat vacant since the Seoul Fire Academy relocated to Eunpyeong-gu in 2018. Alongside this, the city designated the site of the existing Seocho Ward Elderly Care Center as a special planning zone, laying the groundwork to supply elderly welfare facilities that have been in short supply.
In April, the city announced plans to supply 12,000 units of "Seoul-type senior housing" by 2035 in response to the country's rapidly aging population, and has been pushing forward related projects. The site is expected to host welfare housing for the elderly equipped with a range of convenience services.
An Dae-hee, head of the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Future Urban Planning Bureau, said, "We have established an urban planning foundation to systematically manage the introduction of policy facilities, such as elderly welfare facilities, in response to the super-aged society." He added, "We expect this to further accelerate the expansion of related policy facilities."
